In 2010 Mulato performed at the Curacao North Sea Jazz Festival. The Band was discribed by the organisation as follows: Mulato is an initiative of JJ Rojer and Ralph Durgaram. Before, guitarist JJ Rojer worked with Paquito de Rivera and for the Lincoln Center Big Band of Wynton Marsalis. Ralph Durgaram used to play drums with rock band The Wrong, worked as a producer for Arcade and was also active on the Amsterdam dance scene. The sphere that Mulato is able to create is derived from alternative soul and Caribbean melodies. The music also contains influences of jazz, soul, lounge, electronic dance, and folklore from Brazil and the Dutch Antilles can also be heard.
